Charles Morris

Morris says of his art, “I am a native of Colorado. Experiencing the wonders of this amazing world that surround me has created a passion to share my appreciation. I love the process of painting and strive constantly to improve my skills but at the same time, I am very aware that skill alone is not enough. For a painting to become Art, it must communicate.

So my goal is not to paint a beautiful or interesting subject; my goal is to paint my feelings about a subject that inspires me. For my work to be successful, I have to connect with the subject. I have to know the subject well, have an appreciation or love of the subject, and have the clarity to express what I find so appealing about the subject. If I do my job well, viewers will understand and perhaps share my feelings.”

Charles Morris has a broad and well-grounded background in the disciplines of art, working in both commercial and fine art since 1970. Morris is happiest painting “Plein Air”, on location, feeling the warmth of the sun or the coolness of the breezes. There is a directness and a spontaneity to the work that is very appealing. His paintings are found in corporate collections in Colorado and many private collections in the United States.

"My art knowledge has been gained by intense personal study plus two years of college art and some workshops conducted by professional artists. An important turning point in my art development was the good fortune of studying with Mel Fillerup, who taught me the benefits and joys of painting on location."
